UPPER Function in Excel: Convert Text to Capitals

UPPER makes text all capitals; LOWER makes it all small letters. Useful for codes, PAN and GSTIN that must be uppercase.

Syntax

=UPPER(text)
Argument What it means
text Text to convert.

Examples

Example 1

=UPPER(TRIM(A2))

Clean PAN: “ abcde1234f ” → ABCDE1234F.

Example 2

=LOWER(A2)

Email addresses in lowercase before de-duplicating.
