Built-in time intelligence assumes a calendar year unless you say otherwise. For April-March, pass the year-end date.

Sales FYTD = TOTALYTD ( [Total Sales], 'Date'[Date], "3/31" )
Sales LY = CALCULATE ( [Total Sales], SAMEPERIODLASTYEAR ( 'Date'[Date] ) )
Sales FYTD LY = CALCULATE ( [Sales FYTD], SAMEPERIODLASTYEAR ( 'Date'[Date] ) )
YoY % = DIVIDE ( [Total Sales] - [Sales LY], [Sales LY] )
Check Value
FY 2024-25 β‚Ή1,27,19,127
FY 2025-26 β‚Ή1,53,75,449 (YoY +20.9%)
FYTD to 30 Sep 2025 β‚Ή80,79,841
FYTD to 30 Sep 2024 (LY) β‚Ή54,13,582
Oct 2025 vs Oct 2024 β‚Ή13,74,831 vs β‚Ή12,85,025

The Date table rules

  • One row per day, no gaps, complete years. The practice table runs 1 Apr 2024 to 31 Mar 2027 so late ship dates fit.
  • Mark it: Table tools > Mark as date table > Date column.
  • Add FY, FY Quarter and FY Month No columns and sort month names by FY Month No so April comes first.
⚠️ Without “3/31”, TOTALYTD restarts in January, and your “YTD” for October quietly covers Jan-Oct instead of Apr-Oct.

Practice

Import pbi-intermediate-model.xlsx into Power BI Desktop (free), create the relationships listed at the top of the .dax file, mark the Date table as a date table and add this lesson’s measures. Compare your card and table values with the lesson’s sheet in the expected-results file. Those numbers were worked out independently in Python from the same data, so a mismatch means a filter or relationship to check.
