Dynamic titles
Chart Title = "Sales - " & SELECTEDVALUE ( Customers[Region], "All regions" )
Format pane > Title > fx > Field value > Chart Title. Select West in the slicer and the title reads “Sales – West”; clear it and it reads “Sales – All regions”.
Field parameters
Modeling > New parameter > Fields, tick Total Sales, Total Profit and Orders. Power BI creates a slicer and a small table:
Metric = {
( "Sales", NAMEOF ( [Total Sales] ), 0 ),
( "Profit", NAMEOF ( [Total Profit] ), 1 ),
( "Orders", NAMEOF ( [Orders] ), 2 )
}
Put Metric on the chart’s Y-axis. Users switch measures with the slicer: one chart instead of three. For FY 2025-26 the card shows βΉ1,53,75,449 / βΉ39,81,375 / 370 orders.
Practice
Import pbi-intermediate-model.xlsx into Power BI Desktop (free), create the relationships listed at the top of the .dax file, mark the Date table as a date table and add this lesson’s measures. Compare your card and table values with the lesson’s sheet in the expected-results file. Those numbers were worked out independently in Python from the same data, so a mismatch means a filter or relationship to check.
