Drill-through

  1. New page “Customer detail” with cards (Total Sales, Orders), a monthly chart and an orders table.
  2. Drag Customers[Customer] into the page’s Drill through well.
  3. On any visual showing customers: right-click > Drill through > Customer detail.

Drilling to Sharma Traders should show β‚Ή35,19,865 and 80 orders. A back button is added automatically.

Tooltip pages

New page > Page information: Allow use as tooltip; Canvas settings: Type = Tooltip. Add a small chart and the field Products[Product] to the tooltip well. Hovering over Laptop anywhere now shows its mini-page (258 units sold in the practice data).

Bookmarks

View > Bookmarks. Set up the page for “Sales view”, Add; hide/show visuals for “Profit view”, Add. Insert two buttons, Action = Bookmark. Use Selection pane visibility, and untick “Data” on a bookmark if it should not reset the slicers.

πŸ’‘ Keep drill-through pages hidden (right-click tab > Hide page) so users reach them only with context.

Practice

Import pbi-intermediate-model.xlsx into Power BI Desktop (free), create the relationships listed at the top of the .dax file, mark the Date table as a date table and add this lesson’s measures. Compare your card and table values with the lesson’s sheet in the expected-results file. Those numbers were worked out independently in Python from the same data, so a mismatch means a filter or relationship to check.
