Long Wi-Fi passwords are a pain to read out. Phones can share them as a QR code instead.

Android

  1. Settings → Wi-Fi (or Network & internet → Internet).
  2. Tap the gear next to your connected network → Share.
  3. Confirm with your fingerprint or PIN; a QR code appears (the password is usually shown underneath too).
  4. Your guest opens their camera and points it at the code.

iPhone

Bring your unlocked iPhone near the guest’s iPhone while they are on the Wi-Fi password screen; tap Share Password when it pops up. Both need each other in contacts. Recent iOS versions can also show a QR code from the Passwords app.

A printed QR code for guests

Any QR generator can create a Wi-Fi code from text in this format:

WIFI:T:WPA;S:YourNetworkName;P:YourPassword;;

Print it and stick it where guests sit. In an office, use a separate guest network so visitors can’t reach shared printers and computers.

⚠️ Anyone who photographs the code has your Wi-Fi. Use the guest network for printed codes and change its password every few months.
