Five actions do most of the work in an ad hoc grid. Once they’re second nature, you can answer most questions in seconds.

Action Does Shortcut
Zoom In Shows children of a member (Q1 → Apr, May, Jun) Double-click the member
Zoom Out Back to the parent Right-click double / ribbon
Keep Only Keeps selected members, removes the rest Ribbon
Remove Only Removes selected members Ribbon
Pivot Moves a dimension between rows, columns and POV Ribbon or drag in POV

Point of view

The POV bar holds the dimensions not on the grid. Change Scenario to Budget, Entity to a branch, and refresh: the whole grid recalculates for that slice.

Zoom options

Options › Member options › Zoom in level: next level (default), all levels, or bottom level (leaf members only, e.g. all months).

💡 You can also type member names directly into cells and refresh; Smart View recognises them. Great for quickly building a specific layout.

Examples use a sample Essbase application (Sample.Basic-style dimensions). Connection URLs, applications and member names differ in every company.

Practice

Practise each action from the checklist on your grid.
