Your books and the bank statement rarely match on any given day: cheques not yet cleared, bank charges you haven’t recorded, receipts you don’t know about. Bank reconciliation explains the difference.
Why they differ
- Cheques issued but not presented; deposits not yet credited.
- Bank charges, interest and direct credits not yet in the books.
- Errors (wrong amount, wrong bank ledger).
Reconcile in TallyPrime
- Open the bank ledger and choose Reconcile (Banking menu).
- For each entry that appears on the statement, enter the bank date.
- Record missing items (charges, interest, direct receipts) as vouchers.
- The bottom shows balance as per company books, amounts not reflected in bank, and balance as per bank, which should equal the statement.
TallyPrime can import bank statements (Excel/CSV/MT940 formats depending on bank) and auto-match entries.

Menus follow TallyPrime (current versions); older Tally ERP 9 menus differ. GST rates and rules shown are examples; confirm current rules before filing.
