  3. A different header in one section
  4. Practice

A page break only starts a new page. A section break starts a new layout: its own orientation, margins, headers, footers and page-number style.

Roman numbers, then 1, 2, 3

  1. After the contents page: Layout > Breaks > Next Page (section break).
  2. Double-click the footer of section 1 > Page Number > Format > i, ii, iii.
  3. In section 2’s footer: Format Page Numbers > Start at: 1, format 1, 2, 3.

One landscape page

Put a section break before and after the wide table or chart, click inside that section, Layout > Orientation > Landscape. Only that section turns.

A different header in one section

Double-click the header in the section, click Link to Previous to turn it off, then type the new text. Sections before it keep theirs.

πŸ’‘ Turn on Home > Show/Hide (ΒΆ) to see the section breaks. Deleting a break merges two sections and the section after it loses its settings, which is the usual cause of “my landscape page went portrait”.

The finished example was made by Word from the practice file: three sections, portrait-portrait-landscape, with the appendix header unlinked.
