Morph animates the difference between two slides: duplicate a slide, move or resize things, apply Morph to the second one. No animation pane needed.

  1. Build the “before” slide. Duplicate it (Ctrl+D).
  2. On the copy, change positions, sizes, colours or text.
  3. Select the copy > Transitions > Morph. Effect Options: Objects, Words or Characters.

In the practice deck, the purple circle grows from 144 to 288 points between “18% market share” and “31% market share”. That’s the story, told by motion.

When Morph can’t match objects

Morph matches objects by type and name. If a shape fades instead of moving, open Home > Arrange > Selection Pane and give the object the same name on both slides, starting with !! (e.g. !!circle). That forces the match.

πŸ’‘ Morph works on text too (Effect Options > Words) and on charts’ surrounding shapes. Use it for one or two key moments, not every slide.

Common mistakes

  • Applying Morph to the first slide: the transition belongs on the second slide of each pair.
  • Older viewers: PowerPoint 2016 without Microsoft 365 shows a fade instead.

Practice
