PowerPoint Presenter View: 7 Tricks for Calmer Presentations

Presenter View shows you your notes, the next slide and a timer, while the audience sees only the current slide. It is the easiest way to present without reading from the screen.

  1. Turn it on: Slide Show tab → tick Use Presenter View. With one screen, press Alt+F5 to rehearse in it.
  2. Swap screens: if the audience sees your notes, click Display Settings → Swap Presenter View and Slide Show.
  3. Jump to any slide: type the slide number and press Enter, or click See all slides.
  4. Blank the screen: B for black, W for white — useful during discussion. Press again to return.
  5. Zoom in: click the magnifier and pick an area — great for dense tables or charts.
  6. Use the timer: it starts with the show; pause it during questions.
  7. Write notes you can glance at: short bullet cues in large font (the notes text size can be increased in Presenter View), not full paragraphs.
💡 Rehearse with Slide Show → Rehearse with Coach (Microsoft 365) for feedback on pace, filler words and reading from slides.
