  5. Practice

The other side sends back “the final agreement” without track changes. Compare shows exactly what they changed.

Compare

Review > Compare > Compare: Original = version 1, Revised = version 2. Word opens a new document with every difference as a tracked change, plus both originals side by side. In the practice files there are three: payment terms 30 β†’ 45 days, “notice” β†’ “written notice”, and arbitration Mumbai β†’ New Delhi.

Accept or reject

Review > Next to walk through changes; Accept or Reject each. Then save the result as the new master.

Combine reviewers’ copies

Several people edited separate copies? Review > Compare > Combine, one copy at a time. All edits land in one document, labelled by reviewer.

Limit editing

  • Review > Restrict Editing > Tracked changes: everyone’s edits are tracked and can’t be turned off.
  • Or allow only Comments for reviewers who should suggest, not edit.
πŸ’‘ Before sending a contract out, File > Info > Check for Issues > Inspect Document removes leftover comments, tracked changes and hidden text the other side shouldn’t see.

Practice

Download the practice document below: the task list is at the top, the content to work on underneath. Compare the two versions and find all three changes.
