Government circulars in another state’s language, a supplier’s manual in Chinese, an English article for a parent who prefers Hindi — translation is built in almost everywhere now.
A whole web page
- Chrome: right-click → Translate to English (or click the translate icon in the address bar → three dots → choose another language, e.g. Hindi).
- Edge: click the translate icon in the address bar, pick the target language, and optionally “Always translate”.
Documents
On translate.google.com choose Documents and upload a PDF, Word or PowerPoint file; you get a translated copy with much of the layout kept. In Microsoft Word: Review → Translate → Translate Document.
Text in a photo
Google Translate app → Camera: point at a sign, menu or letter and the translation appears over it. Google Lens in Chrome does the same on a computer (see Google Lens on your computer).
Accuracy tips
- Machine translation is good for understanding, weaker for legal, medical and financial wording — get those checked by a person.
- Numbers, dates and amounts are usually safe, but double-check units and lakh/crore conversions.
- Translating back into the original language is a quick sanity check for important sentences.
